MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) – Today is the busiest travel day of the year as people head home for Thanksgiving though officials at a regional airport say there are some tips you can follow to make for a less stressful experience.
If you are flying somewhere this week, you won't be alone. The travel group AAA estimates that 3.4 million people will fly somewhere for the holiday – up nearly 2 percent from last year.
You should give yourself plenty of time to get your boarding pass and clear security, said Central Wisconsin Airport marketing coordinator Stephanie Luisier. She said getting to the airport an hour-and-a-half early is a good rule of thumb.
“The worst thing would be to be rushing around right before you get on your flight or even missing your flight,” she said.
You won't be able to bring everything on the plane either, Luisier said. The Transportation Security Administration limits passengers to one quart size bag of liquids in containers that are 3.4 ounces or smaller.
Gifts should stay unwrapped until you get to your final destination to make it easier for TSA agents to screen them.
