MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) – Investigators in Lincoln County need your help finding the rightful owners of more than 30 animal mounts stolen from cabins in the Northwoods over the past year.
Sheriff's deputies arrested Kyle Lindner June 8th after he tried to sell one of the mounts to an undercover officer. Linder is charged in two separate cases with burglary and theft. A pre-trial conference in both cases is scheduled for July 28th.
Authorities have recovered nine deer shoulder mounts and eight deer antler mounts as well as other animal rugs and mounts.
Owners need to show proof of ownership, like a photo of the missing item or a taxidermist's receipt, in order to claim the property.
Sheriff's Detective Lieutenant Mark Gartmann also says anyone with valuable items like an animal mount should hide identifying information on the item. He also says cabin owners should regularly have someone check on their property to report any break-ins as soon as possible.
