WAUKESHA, Wis. (WSAU) – Employees at Harley-Davidson were getting their first look today at the contract concessions they’ll be asked to take.

Union members at the Milwaukee area Harley motorcycle plants met with their leadership at the Waukesha Expo Center. A similar meeting was scheduled for Harley employees in Tomahawk.

The union is expected to vote on the deal next Monday.

Harley has said it needs to save 54-million-dollars a year in production costs at the Wisconsin plants – and create a more flexible workforce that responds better to economic changes and seasonal demands for its motorcycles.

Last year, Harley workers in York Pennsylvania approved a contract that eliminated half their jobs, to avoid losing to rest to a plant in Kentucky.

Harley recently said it was considering Kansas City as a possible place for moving Wisconsin jobs if it didn’t get the savings it needed.

About 1,300 total jobs are said to be on the line.
