UNDATED (WSAU) It was not a good Labor Day weekend for area campgrounds. What's usually the last big weekend of the summer saw a decrease in last-minute reservations and an increase in cancellations. The weather is to blame.
Temperatures were 10 to 15-degrees below normal for the weekend, with lows in the 40s most nights. And there was a threat of rain most days. Some campers decided not come; others left early.
Some campgrounds also complain that an earlier start to school hurts Labor Day bookings. Most public schools went back to class last week.
