UNDATED (WSAU) West Nile Virus is making a comeback in Wisconsin. State officials say the first mosquitoes have tested positive.

State officials are sounding the warning because many people will be outside during the Labor Day weekend, and the state's mosquito population is bigger than usual this year because of the wet summer.

West Nile Virus usually appears in birds first, and then gradually spreads to the kinds of mosquitoes that bite humans. In 2002 the state set a record with 52 cases of human infection. There was only one reported west nile case in Wisconsin last year.
