MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - More AIDS patients in Wisconsin may benefit from a bill signed into law by Governor Jim Doyle. The legislation requires the state to develop a plan to pry loose more federal funding for non-profit or public agencies that help treat people with HIV.

One agency that may land more money is the Aids Resource Center of Wisconsin. It has a large clinic in Milwaukee, and is currently developing more services in Green Bay. Center organizers also plan to do so in Kenosha.

The Center's president and CEO, Doug Nelson, says the Medicaid program is looking favorably on AIDS service providers that have something called the medical home concept. He says other AIDS programs in the state could qualify, too, if they develop that concept. Nelson says the Aids Resource Center of Wisconsin is anticipating about a 20 percent increase in patients in the coming years.
