MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) – Lincoln County supervisors have approved a measure to continue with the renovation of the Lincoln County courthouse by using money from the county's capitol improvement fund.
Those plans had to expanded after a request from the State Historical Society. They objected to a plan to remove partitions inside the courthouse, and requested that a planned sally port be immediately added to the construction project. The additions would cost the county an additional 668 thousand dollars.
Several supervisors objected to the measure, saying that the county might later need the money for other emergencies. Others argued that the county shouldn't be spending itself into bankruptcy.
The measure passed on a roll call vote 18-4.
