UNDATED (WSAU) Tax-Day is five weeks from tomorrow – and Wisconsinites are slower to file this year. State Revenue Secretary Roger Ervin says about 30-thousand fewer income tax returns have been filed than this time a year ago. And despite the recession, Ervin still expects about three-million returns to be filed.

Ervin made his comments at a center in Madison that offers free assistance in preparing returns for low-income people, seniors, and the disabled. There are about 200 centers statewide, and Ervin encourages folks to use them to learn what credits they qualify for. He says Wisconsinites who don’t file, or have incomplete returns, will lose out on 30-to-60-million dollars in tax credits. Also, Ervin says the Revenue Department is trying to keep delinquencies at a minimum by giving people alternatives for paying what they owe.
