WITTENBERG, Wis (WSAU) Shawano County officials will test their emergency sirens at noon today. This comes after complaints that the sirens in Wittenberg didn't go off during a storm that caused heavy damage last week.

Shawano County officials say a malfunctioning generator was the problem. Its batteries were drained and didn't have enough power to receive the signal to activate the sirens. The generator has since been replaced. The sheriffs department and a private company are both conducting investigating into the failure.

Wittenberg suffered heavy damage from straight-line winds on July 20th. The roof was torn off a part of Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School. The Verizon building was damaged. Dozens of trees were toppled.

Today's test will involve all 13 of the county's emergency sirens.
