MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) –Central Wisconsin Airport officials will apply for a federal grant next month that could provide an incentive to Republic Airways to provide service between Mosinee and Milwaukee.
The Small Community Air Service Development grant could also help market more seats on flights to Minneapolis and Detroit. Each flight is expected to pick up an additional 16 seats when Delta Airlines upgrades from a turboprop plane to a regional jet.
Marathon County gave the application a boost Tuesday when it agreed to provide a $15,000 local match if the airport gets the grant. Portage County has committed between $8,000 and $10,000.
Airport manager Tony Yaron said the grant could entire Republic Airways to re-start service between Mosinee and Milwaukee. Midwest Airlines canceled the service in September 2008. Republic bought Midwest last summer.
