UNDATED (WSAU) Wisconsin Democrats say Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker should have stayed home to check out flood damage during the weekend – instead of campaigning around the state for governor. But the Republican Walker calls that “absolutely ridiculous.” He said he handled the most important flood-related business on Friday, leaving him free to campaign on Saturday while Democrat Tom Barrett toured five flood-damaged areas in his job as Milwaukee’s mayor. Barrett canceled his Saturday campaign appearances.

And State Democratic Party chairman Mike Tate said Barrett was the only one to quote, “stand up and lead.”

Walker met with numerous county officials on Friday, and he signed a request to have the county declared a disaster area. And after he did that, Walker said he never thought of canceling his weekend campaign visits to Eau Claire, Wausau, and the Green Bay area. He said his remained in touch with his chief-of-staff and major county operations on the road – and he updated residents with a media briefing yesterday.

Barrett would not take a slap at Walker’s campaigning. The mayor would only say he felt it was imperative to stay in Milwaukee during the weekend – and that’s where he was.
