The Indiana Department of Education has a new way of tracking students' progress with more emphasis on yearly growth in academic skills rather than relying solely on passing statewide ISTEP-Plus tests.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett says the Indiana Growth Model will calculate each student's progress year to year. It will show not only whether a student is proficient in a certain subject but also how much progress the student has made in a year's time.
Bennett says the program will highlight students who make good progress, no matter what their scores, so local schools can identify teachers or methods that are working well.
