KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Comstock woman continues to cling to life, following a tragic accident that killed her daughter yesterday. Just before 6AM, Deputies say that Karen Fleckenstein lost control of her GMC Jimmy on Sprinkle Road and slid sideways into a full sized pickup driven by 56-year-old John Buchin of Plainwell. The violent collision killed 2-year-old Chantle Fleckenstein on impact, and left her 26-year-old mother in critical condition. Both had to be pried out of the wreckage.
Undersheriff Paul Matyas says it also terminated Fleckenstein’s 12-week old pregnancy. She suffered life threatening head injuries and was taken to Borgess Medical Center. Both were properly restrained.
The other driver was treated and released. They say she was just driving too fast for conditions.
