STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) – While the rest of the state may only have recently seen an increase in access to the Family Care program, the state initiative is celebrating it's 10th anniversary in central Wisconsin.

Community Care of Central Wisconsin CEO Jim Canales says that's important because it's reduced a long term waiting list for elderly at home care from over 900 to nothing in the ten years the organization's been serving Portage, Wood and Marathon Counties.

Canales says it's also streamlined the way that counties and regions provide that care to the elderly, by reducing the number of municipal agencies that are needed to get care to the patient. He says it's that cost savings that can be provided to both patients and taxpayers.

The program is now running in 44 counties across the state, and Canales says they expect to be able to keep helping the elderly live out their lives with diginity.
